FAQs

What security measures have been taken?

The following security measures minimize the risk of public access to sensitive information:

1) The site has no option for on-line payment of dues, or other requirement for entry of sensitive personal data such as bank account, credit card, or social security numbers.

2) Only a few menu links (Home, Register, Login, etc.) are active prior to login, and therefore accessable by the public. Information available via these links is intentionally restricted. Most of the FAQ also is public, in order to communicate with members not yet registered and those having difficulty registering or logging in. As needed, selected FAQ items can be set to be visible only to members who are logged in.

3) Individuals registering for site access are verified to be LJV association members prior to being allowed to log in. Login requires use of a password with minimum features (see the FAQ item, "Why is CAT not a good password?").

4) Login passwords, including one's own password, are encrypted and are not visible to any member before or after login.

5) Information available to members after login is limited to that generally available to the public or is not otherwise sensitive. For example, profiles of registered members show only the data generally found in phone books or other public records. Official association documents on the site are from public records or do not otherwise contain sensitive data. Members can post information in the Classifieds, but ads first must be approved by a site administrator.
